The Madrid Bar Association (ICAM) will hold a major Summit on European Union Law during the Spanish Presidency.

MADRID, 27th JULY 2023

The Madrid Bar Association, in close collaboration with the Legal Service of the European Commission, will hold the first Summit on European Union Law on November 16th and 17th, a high-level event for legal professionals during the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The Summit, which will take place in a unique setting, the recently inaugurated Gallery of the Royal Collections, seeks to promote the influence and the regulatory impact of European law and to address the main regulatory challenges facing the European Union in the medium and long term.

“In a year when Spain has assumed the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, and as we celebrate both the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the 70 years of the Legal Service of the European Commission, the ICAM feels the responsibility to facilitate this participatory and open gathering for all sectors and organizations associated with the legal profession. The goal is to bring European law and institutions closer to all legal practitioners,” explains Deputy Member Teresa Mínguez.

Through a wide variety of institutional events, expert panels, and meetings with national and international authorities, the Summit will also provide an opportunity to make an initial assessment of the Spanish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The Summit will address topics such as the European Green Deal, the Artificial Intelligence Act, the EU’s relationship with Latin America, the state of the rule of law in the EU, and the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, among many others.

The speakers will be prestigious personalities and jurists in the European field, ambassadors, high-ranking representatives from Spanish and European authorities, representatives from international legal organizations, and presidents of foreign and European bar associations. Additionally, participants from the private sector will include lawyers from national and international law firms, legal directors of companies, and CEOs, offering an outstanding opportunity to showcase their commitment to the development of European law and international cooperation between the public and private sectors.
